The Madison or Milwaukee office of SmithGroup is looking for a Design Architect to join our team.

Working with us, you will:

  • Foster a culture of design excellence and thought leadership by understanding and applying practice, cultural, and sustainability drivers in the context of regional and local client projects and opportunities.
  • Lead a team of architects and designers to complete programming, design, and detailing; and oversee technical documentation and construction administration for projects of complex nature, including, but not limited to: higher education, workplace, and cultural practices.
  • Develop and manage positive client relationships and work as the client s advocate by identifying and balancing client expectations within the context of contractual obligations, corporate goals, and client satisfaction.
  • Communicate with all project participants, internal staff, consultants, clients, owners, contractors, and jurisdictions in an effective and collaborative manner.
  • Mentor, provide oversight, and monitor the work performed by junior staff.
  • Participate in business development efforts through participating in professional and peer organizations and supporting proposal development and interviews.
  • Strive to design a better future - which is more just, equitable, diverse, and inclusive for people and planet.

An ideal candidate has:

  • A bachelor s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive professional experience.
  • Experience leading other architects and project teams.
  • Architectural registration required.
  • LEED AP and/or WELL AP sustainability and wellness credentials is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with clients and build client relationships and trust.
  • Effectiveness in working in a multi-disciplinary team setting, collaborating, and mentoring.
  • Thorough knowledge of the entire project process (programming through delivery) and ability to lead design efforts through all project stages, including leadership with the client, contractors, and internal team.
  • Demonstrated awareness of code implementation and jurisdiction review.
  • Demonstrated awareness of construction practices and methodologies.
  • Proficiency with presentation tools is required, including the ability to clearly communicate ideas and design concepts internally and externally, and build consensus.
  • Proficiency with Revit including design, visualization, and construction documentation is encouraged.
  • Proficiency in visualization tools, the Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, and Deltek Vision for management and planning is preferred.
